:00 and the nfl will announce today if san francisco is in the running to host a super bowl. >> reporter: we are not just talking about any super bowl. san francisco wants to host super bowl 50, a huge anniversary for the nfl that would include more than a week of events and celebrations. this is how this would work out. all the festivities would happen in san francisco. the actual game at the new 49ers stadium would be 40 miles down the road in santa clara. it's expected to open in 2014 and a stadium has to exist for two seasons to host the super bowl. san francisco is hoping to bid ant 2016 and 2017 games. the only super bowl in the bay area was in 1985 at stanford. the mayor submitted the application back in august and this is what's next. today nfl will announce which cities are in the running. if san francisco is one of them, it will host a plan on may 7th of next year. two weeks later the city will make a presentation to the 32 nfl owners. just to give you an idea, hosting a super bowl is expensive, about $25 million. san francisco wants to be part of the 50th and electricity reand say

mirkarimi the suspended san francisco sheriff. the board of supervisors is voting on whether to remove him from office for good. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in san francisco with more on what is at stake. good morning. >>> reporter: good morning. this case has played out for months at city hall and this decision a big deal because it could set the precedent for misconduct cases in the future. sheriff ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor relating to a domestic violence dispute that left his wife with a bruised arm on new year's eve. nine months later we could find out if he stays or if he goes for official misconduct. his wife eliana lopez showed her neighbor a bruised arm which you can see in this video after her husband grabbed her during an argument. mirkarimi was sentenced to three years' probation, fined and ordered to undergo counseling. he was also placed on unpaid leave by mayor ed lee. since then, mirkarimi has been fighting for his job. his attorney says that the marital incident has nothing to do with his role has sheriff and he was also voted in. mayor lee want

into the ocean are now back onshore. the $10million vessel flipped yesterday near the san francisco yacht club. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is at the headquarters of team oracle, which owns the boat. >> reporter: this is the first time a major incident has happened with these new longer 72-foot catamarans. but we're told the most important thing is that nobody was hurt in this incident. crews worked into the early- morning hours to bring back what was left of that $10 million boat and yesterday sailors on the america's cup boat were doing training exercises and team leaders say they knew something was wrong when the back of the boat started to lift up and say winds were not working in their favor. it was blowing in one direction and the current in the opposite. and that's when the boat went in along with some of the 13 crewmembers. involving two cars and a big rig shut down several lanes of highway 101 in san francisco until after 10 p.m. we're told there are no injuries -- there are some injuries but they appear to be not serious. >>> and developing news out of half moon bay where a single- engine plane took off early this morning and hasn't been seen since. cbs 5 reporter lindy is in san mateo county with what we've learned. >> reporter: the information we're getting is still preliminary, but this is what we know at this hour from a spokesman with the faa. a small plane did leave half moon bay just before 6:00, headed to tucson, arizona, with a scheduled fuel stop at apple valley, california, just north of san bernardino. the faa spokesman said it was a single had f engine, a plane similar to the one in this photograph. the pilot's wife reported that the plane was overdue when it failed to show up on schedule at the regional airport in tucson. it is not known at this hour if any search is underway. that is the information we know at this hour. linda yee reporting live in san mateo county. >>> thousands of dollars

and the giants won big last night. there may be street closures around downtown san francisco. we'll talk about that coming up. >> it was a big night all the way around. the giants are back on top in the baseball world. >> completed the world series sweeper last night winning 4 games to 3 in 10 innings. while most of the celebrations were peaceful. some turned violent. a number of fires were set in the mission district. the damage that was left behind after that big winner last night. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. there are piles of debris here near the intersection of 16th and mission. and we've seen the clean up has already begun. take a look at the violence. thousands of fans fell out on the streets after the game. some fans started setting fires. and police were dressed in full riot gear. we heard reports of firefighters having to be escorted to fight these fires. you can see those flames from up high. just before 1:00, some fans were still out here in the streets and officers told them they were unlawfully assembling and they needed to leave. at this point, one arrest has been

in 10 innings. let the champaign go. most of the celebrations in san francisco were peaceful, some turned violent after the game ended. a number of fires were set in the streets of the mission district. kate is there now with the latest. >> she's checking the mess the fans left behind. there was debris in the street behind you earlier. >> reporter: it's still there right now. if you take a look, that charred remains of last night's celebration still here in the mission district. officers put down flairs so drivers can see where these pile of debris are. turned to mayhem here in the mission district. officers tried to disperse thousands of fans. fires to trash cans, couches and newspaper racks. officers told fans that were still here they were unlawfully assembling and needed to leave. you can see the violence from up above. chopper 5 got these shots of the mission district. some firefighters needed to be he is supreme courted to put out these flames. back out live here, we don't know when this debris will be moved out. we've seen the officers relight these flairs so people know the

into that undercover officer's car. san francisco police say this all started at 1:30 a.m. an undercover officer was shot at multiple times from a moving car. pd says the car had three suspects inside. the officer chased them to the 2500 block here of bryant street. that's when the three suspects jumped out of the car and ran away. the officers did catch up with one suspect and then police at the time set up a perimeter to try and find the other two. now, when ee got here about 10 minutes after we arrived, they were able to take down the crime tape. we watched officers search that suspect or the suspects' vehicle and tow it away. we know now this is an ongoing investigation and hope to have more information throughout the morning. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> new this morning, police in oakland are trying to find three home invasion robbery suspects overnight on coral road. police say the suspects were armed. so far authorities are not saying what was stolen. >>> the giants beat the tigers last night 8-3. what a night in game one. a little luck including this rbi double good

'm michelle griego. time now 6:00. shots fired at an undercover police officer in san francisco's mission district. >> one suspect under arrest right now and another man is looking for two other suspects. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran has the latest. she joins us with the latest. >> reporter: actually i did mention it earlier. the mission district is where they are looking for the suspects. the good news is there are no injuries reported so far. you can take a look at the damage done to one officer's car. san francisco police say this all started at 1:0 this morning when an undercover officer was shot at multiple times from the moving car. the police department says there were three suspects inside. three suspects jumped out of the car. the officer caught up with one suspect and then pd at the time set up a perimeter to try and find the other two. as far as we know, those two suspects are still outstanding and they are currently looking for them at this point. the investigation is under way. we are hoping to get more information as the story develops later on this morning. live in the miss
